The University of the United Arab Emirates is the Emirati public educational institution established in 1976. Zayed ben Sultan Al Nahyane had the initiative to build this university located in Al Ain. The United Emirates University was established some time after independence and the founding of the federation. In 1991, the Faculty of Science first introduced the Master’s degree programme. The first doctoral programme was established in 2009. Four faculties welcomed the first students when the university opened in 1977.
These are the Faculty of Administrative and Political Sciences, currently called Commerce and Economics, the Faculty of Art, and the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, a faculty specializing in education and science. Over the years, other courses have been opened to diversify the choice of disciplines. In 1978, Shari’ah and Law was opened, and in 1980, Agricultural Sciences and Engineering was inaugurated. The University of Manchester was established in 2006 within the Dubai Knowledge Park. This educational centre offers part-time programmes for professors who wish to obtain their master’s degree. These sessions are delivered in a mixed format. Learners will be required to travel to Dubai to attend face-to-face workshops.
